Below are some useful tips to help you study effectively and efficiently.
1. Find out your study method.
Study methods include using diagrams, illustrations, pictures, highlighting key points, brainstorming, reading out loud, group discussion, etc. Figure out which method works best for you and use that.
2. Pay attention in class.
During classes, listen attentively and take notes. Don’t be shy to ask questions if you don’t understand something. Stay away from people and things that will distract you.
3. Revise your notes every day.
Don’t pile your notes and wait till the exam approaches. Go through what you studied at school the same day. Build on the illustrations and examples you learnt. Rewriting your notes or summarising them in your own words is a good way of revising.
4. Find a place and time to study.
Create a comfortable area where you can spend some time each day to study. Organise your study area and use the place only for learning. Make sure there is proper ventilation and enough light at the place. It is not advisable to study at dark places.
5. Prepare an achievable timetable.
Allocate time for the subjects you want to study each day. Remember that each subject requires a different technique for learning. So, be sure to allocate ample time for each subject. You could start with the one you like the least and end with the one you like the most.
6. Take regular breaks.
Give yourself enough time to study, but don’t forget to move away from your desk to stretch, relax or rest for a while. Taking regular breaks will help you study better.
7. Stay healthy always.
Do some exercises, eat balanced meals and drink a lot of water during the day. Drinking a lot of water a few hours before bedtime may disturb your sleep. Do not eat too much before studies or bedtime and avoid taking in caffeine or alcohol.
8. Test yourself, pamper yourself.
Give yourself some tests after studying to see how well you’ve grasped the content. You could also pamper yourself. For example, buy some sweets for yourself if you do well in your tests.
9. Fill in the gaps.
Don’t be left behind. If you were absent from school, ask your friends for information and notes you missed out on.
10. Get rid of the fear and make learning fun.
